Russian Constructivism

Jennifer

One of the projects I worked on for Herzing University was a report on an influential graphic art movement, presented in the style of that movement.

I chose Russian Constructivism because I found its clean lines, bright colors, and geometric shapes intriguing.

I created the layout in Adobe InDesign. I used heavy black lines between each of the columns based on Hans Arp and El Lissitzky’s influencial book The “Isms” of Art 1914-1924. In it, they used a three-column setup that is still in use in many publications today.

The headings had to be red; almost all Russian Constructionist works made use of the same red as the Communist party paired with black. Most used only a few colors to save on ink prices.
